Apprentice Day 2020

Kick-off for the prospective road builders

A warm summer morning in Weilburg-Gaudernbach heralds the start of a new career for nine young men:
The new apprentices in the road construction and civil engineering sector gather on the W. Schütz company premises and are welcomed there by their training supervisors Jennifer Böhm and Tayfun Tanrikulu. They accompany the newcomers during their apprenticeship and are there to answer any questions they may have.

The first stop of the day is the conference room, where the new apprentices are officially welcomed and introduce themselves. Here, even CEO Ottmar W. Schütz makes sure not to miss the opportunity to welcome them and to address a few encouraging words to the prospective road and civil engineering workers of the company. This is followed by an introduction to the traditional family business history and the current business divisions. However, none of those attending are really unfamiliar with the Schütz company, as the red machines and vehicles of the family business are well known in the region. The big difference to the past? Soon they will be allowed to sit in the machines and will not only have to drive past them. After the general part, the new apprentices get an overview of the employee regulations, safety regulations and work and vocational school procedures that are relevant to them, before they take their first break.

After the break, with new energy, they go to the company’s own building yard, where everyone receives their own “Road and civil engineering starter kit”. The kit includes work clothing with safety shoes and high-visibility vest as well as a comprehensive set of various tools. The newcomers are allowed to keep these so that they can get a better feel for the work utensils and, if necessary, use them in vocational school. Most of the tools were already known to the trainees and were easily recognized when the tool list was read out loud. Nevertheless, there were a few astonished looks… understandably so, because not many of them had ever held a two-metre bricklayer’s scale in their hands. It won’t be too long before they know their “arsenal” inside out and can use it.

In the afternoon, the day was rounded off with a joint lunch and the apprentices had their first well-earned „home time“. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new class of apprentices in road construction and civil engineering and are looking forward to the time together!
